Say you are on holiday in a warm country where the sea temperature rises above 24 degrees, or you want to dive in a warm pool. It sounds very tempting then to just go diving in your bikini. You can, but it is more comfortable to wear a 3mm wetsuit or shorty.
Why do you use a wetsuit in warm water?
Wetsuits provide protection, but not just from the cold! It also protects you from the sun's bright UV rays, sharp coral or rocks and underwater fauna. A 3mm is a perfect balance between warmth and freedom of movement, as they are thin and flexible. In addition, 3mm wetsuits are also great for snorkelling, supping, surfing and many more water sports.
A good fit is also important here. A suit should not be too tight, otherwise you have no freedom of movement. It shouldn't be too loose either. Women's wetsuits are made for the female form and therefore often fit better than men's and unisex suits.
Back zip
In these wetsuits, the zip is on the back. It is handy to close it on your own, but you can easily take the suit on and off. You also have more movement at the arms and shoulders. However, a backzip does let more water through.
Front zip
Here, the zip is on the chest. It is easy to close.
Shorties
Shorties are wetsuits whose arms and legs are short instead of long. They are perfect if you want maximum freedom of movement.
