Ocean Reef - Underwater, naturally
Ocean Reef finds its origins at the end of 1940, immediately after the Second World War. It started with the Gamberini family. At that time they had a small tire repair shop. They worked with rubber every day and it was ultimately the passion of Giorgio and Ruggero Gamberini that drove them to experiment with the material. The Gamberini brothers caught the eye of Commander Ferraro - a professor whose diving efforts during the war earned him the highest recognition from the Italian Navy.
Ferraro was designing his first rubber masks and diving fins. When he heard about Giorgio and Ruggero - and their expertise with rubber - he quickly asked for help with the development. Rubber was a new material at the time, and not many people knew how to work with it well.
However, the experimentation did not end with the collaboration with Ferraro. Sometime later, the two brothers and their third brother Gianni were contracted by Egidio and Nanni Cressi. Together, they set to make the underwater world accessible to everyone with their first designs and products.
With the family business specializing in rubber and plastic, and his background as a chemical engineer, OCEAN REEF was born. Nowadays Ocean Reef's diving and snorkeling masks are still designed and made in Italy.
