For many divers, diving gloves are an important part of the diving equipment. For example, for wreck diving, diving gloves are a must have. You can come across anything and with diving gloves your protect your hands.

Different types of diving gloves

Diving gloves come in different shapes and sizes. An important thing is the thickness of the diving gloves. Depending on where you want to go diving and the temperature of the water, you can adjust the thickness of the diving gloves. You can generally follow the next guidelines:

27 ° C or warmer (warm tropical water): 1 to 2 millimeters
20 – 27 ° C: 3 to 4 millimeters
Colder than 20 ° C: 5, 6 or 7 mm
In colder waters, it is necessary to wear a dry suit with suitable diving gloves. The gloves have a layer of air between the hands and the fabric. This keeps your hands warm and they don’t get wet.

In addition to the difference in thickness, there is also a difference in models. In general, two types of diving gloves are available. Five finger and three finger gloves. The diving gloves with three fingers are a type of mittens that are often used in cold water.

When choosing scuba diving gloves, it is important to choose the correct closure. Some diving gloves close with Velcro and others with elastic. Gloves that close with elastic are often a bit longer and are placed higher around your arm. For dry suit gloves, there are special ring closures that can be easily attached to the sleeves of your dry suit.
