Turn your iPhone into a dive computer with the Oceanic+ Dive Housing

The Oceanic+ Dive Housing is the new housing from US dive equipment manufacturer Oceanic. Your smartphone becomes a real dive computer thanks to this waterproof housing.

What is the Oceanic+ Dive Housing?

Since the introduction of the apple watch ultra, you can dive with the Apple Watch Ultra and the oceanic app. Through installing the Oceanic+ app and subscribing to your smartwatch, you can make the most beautiful dives with the Apple Watch on your wrist as a dive computer. The Oceanic+ Dive Housing builds on this, only it is for iPhones. All iPhones from the iPhone SE 2nd generation upwards are compatible with the Oceanic+ housing. However, your phone must have at least iOS 16 or higher. Do you already have a subscription for your Apple Watch dive computer? Then you can use the same subscription for diving with your iPhone.

How it works?

1. Put your phone in the case.
   
   
2. Connect via Bluetooth. You must have the Oceanic+ app to do this. Once you want to use your phone as a dive computer, you need to buy a subscription in the app. The snorkelling programme is free, though.
   
   
3. Follow the step-by-step process that comes up on your screen to put your phone in airtight and vacuum sucked. The audible pump makes you hear it being vacuum sucked in. This is followed by a 3.5-minute pressure test.
   
   
4. Only after the pressure test are you ready to dive. Every time you put your smartphone in the case, this test should be performed. This way, you can be sure that no water gets into the case and that the dive computer does not fog up.
   
   
5. Made a nice dive? Then follow the steps again to safely remove your phone from the case. Your dive location is saved via your phone's GPS in your logbook in Oceanic+'s app.

Taking the best photos and videos underwater

Besides being a dive computer, you can take non-stop RAW or JPG photos with your iPhone in the Oceanic+ Dive Housing. This is because your camera is continuously activated. This makes it easy to take photos of all the beauty you encounter underwater. At any depth, you can adjust the white balance. This has the advantage that you have more colour in your image. If you have a newer iPhone, you can also use the ultra-wide-angle lens functions while diving. This allows you to get even more in the picture. Alternate between photo and video? You can do that underwater, too. You can decide whether you want to film in HD or 4K. This way, you always get the best videos of the underwater world.

If you take photos or films during your dive and then look them back in your logbook, you can see exactly at what depth you took them. All photos and videos will also automatically appear in your gallery. This makes them easily accessible and, of course, shareable.

Diving with the Oceanic+ Dive Housing

With the Oceanic+ Dive Housing, you can dive up to 60 metres. However, the dive computer itself can only go down to 40 metres. Thanks to the ergonomically shaped handle, you have an excellent grip while diving. You also have a wrist strap so you can safely tie it around your wrist. This way, you never have to worry about the dive computer falling out of your hand while diving. Operating it underwater is easy via a Bluetooth keypad and thanks to the built-in compass, you always know the direction. Want to be highly visible under water? Then you can attach a lamp on top of the housing.

In total, you can dive 100 hours with the housing without having to recharge it. So in most cases, enough to dive for 1-2 weeks! Still empty? The rechargeable built-in battery can be quickly recharged with a USB-C cable.

Waterproof diving with your smartphone

When you go into the water with your smartphone, of course you want it to be protected from water. Thanks to the O-ring in the Oceanic+ Dive Housing, you make sure your phone remains waterproof throughout the dive. It is important to take it out every now and then before or after your dive and clean and grease it with silicone grease.

Make sure the humidity is also low. You can do this with the included moisture absorbers. By placing these in the housing, you prevent the housing from fogging up under water. As soon as the moisture absorber is discoloured, you need to replace it. This is how you keep the humidity low.
